Cabling and Bracing

Our Client had a Swamp Cypress (Taxodium distichum) with co dominant stems. The union at the base of the tree was not the best and the left hand side of the tree was aiming for the house if it were to fail. It was decided that a light thinning of the canopy and the installation of a cable be the best prescription!

Thinning the canopy lightly would reduce the sail effect of the tree by allowing winds to blow through as oppose to against the tree. The cable is a last chance fail safe. The cable was installed with enough slack as not to interfere with the tree during the natural movement in wind. However, in storm and high wind conditions when the tree is more likely to fail the cable will come into play and lessen the chance of damage to the property.

As with all cable installation situations it is recommended that the union concerned be inspected regularly and action be taken as necessary.

This tree is now a lesser risk to the homeowner and can be enjoyed for many years to come.

Our gallery below is showing some pictures of the work we undertook.
